Advocacy - The Refugee Community
In an effort to prevent the perpetration of abuse, WISE through Advocacy and Outreach campaigns to communities including schools, churches, and the public places at large. Our advocacy program directly reaches over 500 people each month and an immeasurable number through other channels.
The schools outreach program is aimed at sensitizing and empowering school-aged children and school authorities with relevant knowledge and skills to facilitate the fight against SGBV. WISE randomly selects schools on the refugee settlements, performs needs assessments and then carries out a tailored program to specifically address peculiar community needs with regards SGBV.
As part of WISE’s advocacy programs, there is an on-going education on health issues and personal hygiene for the refugee community through community and schools outreach programs. Health outreach events have been organized chiefly on personal hygiene and the health impacts of abuse. Such events mostly attract approximately 350 people.
This program attempts to capture the cross section of people in the community. Most of the community outreaches are carried out in open air campaigns or one-on-one where the advocacy team moves from house to house to interact with people.
